MONMOUTH CIVIC CHORUS ANNOUNCES NEW SEASON

Christmas Favorites at Count Basie Theatre

September 10, 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Artistic Director Dr. Ryan James Brandau will lead the 2015-16 season of the award-winning Monmouth Civic Chorus, featuring traditional Christmas favorites in December and classical gems in March and May. Subscribers are guaranteed the best seats and best prices for all three concerts.

The sounds of Christmas will fill the air when the chorus and orchestra premiere a new Christmas Suite by Dr. Brandau, with his own arrangements of holiday favorites. Classical selections from Handel’s beloved Messiah and Bach’s magnificent Mass in B Minor will round out the program. The concert, titled Joy to the World, is on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at the historic Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank. For many music lovers, it won’t be Christmas without it. Individual tickets for premium seating: $45 adult, $40 senior, $35 group (10 or more), $10 student. For regular seating: $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group, $5 student.

Dr. Brandau has chosen the transcendent acoustics of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 101 Chelsea Avenue, Long Branch, for a superb concert titled Passions, with meditations on Lent from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The music is poignant and contemplative, including Membra Jesu Nostri by Dieterich Buxtehude, Crucifixus by Antonio Lotti, and O Vos Omnes by Pablo Casals. The concert is on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group, $5 student.

The season closes with Heavenly Harmony on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 255 Harding Road (Tower Hill), Red Bank. The music includes the visionary Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Handel’s triumphant Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, and the buoyant Choral Dances from Gloriana by Benjamin Britten. Tickets are $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group, $5 student.

Artistic Director Ryan James Brandau has broad experience conducting a variety of choral and orchestral ensembles. In addition to his work with Monmouth Civic Chorus, he serves as Artistic Director of Princeton Pro Musica and Amor Artis, a chamber choir and orchestra in New York City. He is also on the faculty of Westminster Choir College, where he works with the Symphonic Choir, which he has prepared for performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, and the New Jersey Symphony. He remains active as a choral arranger, composer, and clinician, whose arrangements and compositions have been featured by choral ensembles across the globe. Ryan received the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Yale School of Music. Prior to pursuing graduate study in conducting, Ryan attended the University of Cambridge in the UK as a Gates Scholar, earning an M.Phil. in historical musicology. He received his B.A. in music, magna cum laude, from Princeton University.

The Monmouth Civic Chorus has been called “near-flawless” (Asbury Park Press), “alive and evocative” (The Star-Ledger) and “superior” (Red Bank Green). The Chorus is the proud recipient of the 2008 ASCAP/Chorus America Alice Parker Award, and the 2010 Spinnaker Award for Arts and Culture from the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce.

Subscriptions are $75 for all three concerts, over 25% savings on full-price tickets. Student subscriptions are $20. Subscribers receive premium seats for the holiday concert, which have sold out year after year. Subscriptions, tickets and information are available at www.monmouthcivicchorus.org or (732) 933-9333.
