Free tickets are available for a concert performance of Giacomo Puccini’s gorgeous opera Turandot with the Westfield Symphony Orchestra, the Monmouth Civic Chorus and the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company. The title role of the beautiful cruel princess will be sung by soprano Othalie Graham. A protégée of legendary soprano Renata Scotto, Ms. Graham was the New Jersey district winner of the 2003 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and a recipient of the prestigious Sullivan Foundation Grant for 2005. She has performed locally with Bohème Opera New Jersey, the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and the Princeton University Orchestra.

The daring prince Calaf, who risks his life to win her heart, will be sung by tenor Carlo Scibelli, whose career has brought him to many of the world’s great opera houses, including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera, Los Angeles Music Center Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He appeared in the “Live from Lincoln Center” PBS telecast of The Merry Widow with the New York City Opera, and in the Barbra Streisand film “The Mirror Has Two Faces.”

The devoted slave Liu will be portrayed by soprano Julianne Borg, an Artist Diplomate of the Yale University Opera program, who has performed with the Hartford, Annapolis, Baltimore, Idaho State Civic, and Green Bay symphonies. She made her professional opera debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
