This December we’re celebrating the holidays and our Sparkling 75th Anniversary Season. By popular request, this year’s performance will have a little extra Messiah in the mix, along with everyone’s favorite excerpts from Artistic Director Ryan James Brandau’s enchanting holiday suite.
As ever, the chorus is joined by elite professional orchestra. This year we are also joined by the wonderful Red Bank Regional High School Concert Choir. Whether you’re brand new to MCC or have been with us for years, you won’t want to miss this show.
Concert runtime is approximately 90 minutes, including a short intermission.
Parking in Red Bank is free on Sundays, but there is no dedicated lot at the venue. Please allow plenty of time to find parking and go through security before taking your seats.

See Amid the Winter Snow – Caswall, arr. Dan Forrest
Jingle Bells (singalong) — John Pierpont, arr. Brandau
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
(Refrain)
Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh,
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon, Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side.
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
He got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot.
(Repeat Refrain)

Within each life (1995)
There is a virgin space within each life,
untouched by any penetrating force,
that trembles in the resonance of God.
Angelic rumors, faint annunciations,
disturb your slumber, rouse you from your dreams,
inviting you to bear a Christ alone.
You realize the seeded soul’s engagement
will change your life forever, weigh it down,
turn words to flesh, make angel rumors real.
You fear the turning, but insistent rhythms
draw you darkly from your resting place.
You rise to greet them — here your dance begins.
Time is full (2009)
Some cuddle newly incarnated dreams
Some lower caskets into hardened earth
Some follow distant stars to unknown lands
Some stand stock still surprised in their own fields
The days are shortest now, the time is full
of work, of gifts to choose, of lights to hang
Burnt offerings have bakers quite incensed
and magi grumble in the crowded shops
Grinning angels wait in pregnant pause
while weary hands pick up messiah scores
Our passed seem present now, and old clichés
passed like presents fill the holiday
“No Matter How Far Away You Roam” (1997)
That last Noël, at Little Sister’s house,
rooms crowded, bustling, bright and cousin-loud,
one held grandkids, grinning for my lens,
the other warbled carols for his son.
Two fathers, joining in as fathers do,
not looking far ahead, not hanging back,
in Christmas present, celebrating Birth
(with just a nod to its twin, standing near).
More than we would know, my father sensed
this celebration likely was his last,
and now he’s gone, we feel him, present, still,
Quiet, in our midst, behind us, still,
there with Mom, in our old Christmas pose,
home for the holidays.
